Serving and uniting the Hindu community across Tanzania — preserving Dharma, nurturing heritage, and fostering harmony since independence.
"Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah" —
May all beings be happy
Core philosophy of our council
The Hindu Council of Tanzania is the apex body representing the Hindu community across Tanzania, including Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Arusha, Mwanza, and beyond. Founded to unite the diverse Hindu organisations operating in the country, we serve as a bridge between our ancient traditions and modern Tanzanian society.
We work tirelessly to preserve Hindu culture and religious practices, promote interfaith harmony, support charitable causes, and represent the community in national discourse. Tanzania's Hindu community — with roots tracing back to the Indian Ocean trade and the colonial era — has contributed immensely to the nation's commerce, culture, and civic life.
Our council brings together temples, mandals, and cultural organisations under one voice, ensuring that every Hindu — regardless of sect, language, or regional background — finds belonging, support, and spiritual sustenance.
Upholding righteous principles and ethical living in daily life.
Selfless service to community — regardless of faith or origin.
Promoting education, scholarship, and Sanskrit learning.
The grandest celebration of the year. Join thousands in lighting diyas across the city, prayers at all major mandirs, cultural programmes, and a grand Lakshmi Puja. Holika Dahan, Food Melas, and Garba nights lead up to the big night.
Holika Dahan at Patel Samaj (6:15 PM), followed by Dhuleti celebrations with colours and music at Radha Krishna Mandir.
Celebrating the sacred bond between brothers and sisters with prayers, rakhi tying, and community gatherings.
Welcoming Lord Ganesha with installations, aartis, and ten days of devotion culminating in visarjan.
Nine nights of Garba and Dandiya Raas, followed by Vijayadashami (Dussehra) on Tuesday 20 October.
From religious guidance to social welfare, we serve every dimension of community life with care and devotion.
Connecting devotees with learned pandits for rituals, havan, and life events — births, marriages, last rites.
Sanskrit classes, Vedic studies, and scholarships for community children to connect with their heritage.
Food drives, medical camps, and assistance for families in need — across all backgrounds.
Music, dance, drama, and youth programmes to keep our cultural traditions alive and vibrant.
Elected office bearers serving the Hindu community across Tanzania for the 2025–2027 term.
From the coast of Dar es Salaam to the highlands of Arusha and the shores of Lake Victoria, Hindu temples and community halls serve as spiritual anchors for our community.
Whether you're a long-standing community member, new to Tanzania, or simply interested in learning about Hindu culture and traditions, we welcome you with open arms.
